The Fairfield University Quick Center for the Arts will present an encore screening of The Met: Live in HD production of El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 1 pm.
Concluding the Metropolitan Opera’s season, this acclaimed new work by composer Gabriela Lena Frank features a libretto by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz and tells a magical-realist story inspired by the lives of renowned artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. The opera follows Frida’s return from the underworld for a brief reunion with Diego, exploring the enduring love, creativity, and emotional complexities that defined their relationship.
Mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard stars as Frida Kahlo alongside baritone Carlos Álvarez as Diego Rivera, with Metropolitan Opera Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducting this Met-premiere production. Directed and choreographed by Deborah Colker, the visually striking staging draws inspiration from the artists’ iconic paintings and has earned praise for its vibrant imagery and emotional storytelling.
