The Lyman Homestead Tours at Lyman Orchards

Step inside the historic 1864 Lyman Homestead for a rare opportunity to explore this grand residence and learn about the Lyman family’s deep roots in Middlefield since 1741. Guided tours will take place on Saturday, February 15, and March 22 at 11 am, offering insights into the lives of eight generations of Lymans, with a special focus on David Lyman (1820-1871), who built the homestead using wealth earned from manufacturing washing machines and wringers.

Led by historian and author Diana Ross McCain, the 45-minute tour will provide a glimpse into several rooms of the Homestead. McCain, known for her historical novel Thy Children’s Children, based on the true story of the Lyman family, will be available for book signings. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at $24.95.

Tickets are $12 per person and include one apple cider donut. The Lyman Homestead, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and part of Connecticut’s Freedom Trail, was home to Lyman family members from 1864 to 1999 and is now available for private event rentals.

Tickets must be purchased in advance, as each tour is limited to 15 participants. No refunds.
