The April 1775 Ride of Israel Bissell at Otis Library
April 14 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

To mark the upcoming 250th anniversary of the Battle of Lexington, Otis Library and the Leffingwell House Museum will host a special presentation on April 14 at 5:30 pm. Historian Dayne Rugh will recount the remarkable five-day journey of Israel Bissell, the lesser-known patriot who rode from Massachusetts to Philadelphia delivering news of the outbreak of the Revolutionary War.
Bissell’s route took him through Connecticut, including a stop at the Leffingwell Inn in Norwich, where he shared the alarm letter with local patriots. The talk will explore his pivotal role in spreading the news of the revolution and highlight Connecticut’s part in the early response to British aggression in 1775.
The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Otis Library is located at 261 Main Street, Norwich, Connecticut. For more information, contact info@leffingwellhousemuseum.org.
