Tavern Talks at Connecticut Museum of Culture and History

Step back into early Connecticut’s lively tavern culture during this engaging gallery talk surrounded by the museum’s remarkable collection of historic tavern signs. Once displayed outside bustling public houses, these signs marked spaces where residents gathered to eat, drink, debate, celebrate, and conduct daily life. Today, they offer a fascinating glimpse into the social and cultural fabric of the past.
On Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 2 pm to 2:30 pm, visitors can explore the symbolism behind some of the museum’s most intriguing and mysterious signs, and discover why so few of these once-common objects have survived. The program takes place at the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History, 1 Elizabeth Street, Hartford, CT 06105, and is included with regular museum admission. No pre-registration is required.
