Summer Spectacular! — Mini Family Fun Day at Mattatuck Museum

A day of creativity, culture, and family-friendly activities awaits at the Mattatuck Museum’s Summer Spectacular! — Mini Family Fun Day on July 11, 2026, from 1 pm to 5 pm. This free community celebration marks the opening of several exciting new exhibitions and invites visitors of all ages to explore art, history, and cultural traditions through hands-on experiences.

The event celebrates the debut of Psychedelic Splendor: The Concert Art of AJ Masthay & Helen Kennedy, Theodate Pope’s Highfield: A History, and Caribbean Indigenous Resistance / Resistencia indígena del Caribe ¡Taíno Vive! Throughout the afternoon, guests can enjoy a variety of museum-wide activities designed to engage and inspire.

Highlights include an exhibition blessing ceremony performed by the Higuayagua Tribe, supported by the City of Waterbury Arts and Tourism Commission, as well as a scavenger hunt, art-making activities, and a special workshop hosted by the Afro Caribbean Cultural Center. Visitors can also create their own backstage passes and explore the museum’s newest exhibitions with family and friends.

Opening remarks will begin at 1:30 pm. Admission is free.
