Student Guide Tour: Collection Spotlight at Yale Center for British Art

A YCBA Student Guide leads this thematic tour of In a New Light: Five Centuries of British Art, offering visitors a focused look at selected works from the museum’s reimagined collection. Each tour is crafted by a student guide and explores a specific theme reflected in the artwork on view.
The installation spans from the sixteenth century to the present, highlighting the complex and far-reaching history of British art. Visitors will encounter portraits that reveal social structures shaped by class, race, and gender, as well as landscapes and architectural scenes that document Britain’s evolution from an agrarian society to an industrialized nation. The exhibition also features artists whose global connections — from the Caribbean to India — influenced the development of British art through travel, migration, and cultural exchange. Allegorical, historical, and religious works add further depth to this expansive narrative.
The tour takes place on December 6 from 2 pm to 2:45 pm. No registration is required, and tours meet in the Entrance Court. Space is limited.
Yale Center for British Art is located at 1080 Chapel Street, New Haven, CT 06510. For more information, visit britishart.yale.edu or call 203-432-2800.
