Staged Readings of Works by Roy Williams and Matilda Feyiṣayọ Ibini at Yale University

The Windham-Campbell Prize Festival will feature staged readings of works by 2025 drama prize recipients Roy Williams and Matilda Feyiṣayọ Ibini on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm in the Lecture Hall. Admission is free.

Students from the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale will present selected scenes from the acclaimed plays of both playwrights, bringing their powerful and visionary storytelling to life on stage. This collaboration highlights the artistry of two celebrated voices in contemporary theater while showcasing the talent of the next generation of performers.

Roy Williams, one of Britain’s most significant playwrights, is known for his sharp explorations of race, class, and the rhythms of modern life. His acclaimed career spans stage, film, television, and radio. Matilda Feyiṣayọ Ibini, a self-described “bionic, queer playwright,” creates richly imaginative works that blend magical realism with nuanced perspectives on race, power, and identity.

The Windham-Campbell Prizes, administered by the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library at Yale, recognize eight writers annually in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama. The 2025 recipients are Sigrid Nunez, Anne Enright, Patricia J. Williams, Rana Dasgupta, Roy Williams, Matilda Feyiṣayọ Ibini, Anthony V. Capildeo, and Tongo Eisen-Martin.
