Spanish Beverage Series at Restaurant Porrón and Pina

Nestled in the back of Hartford’s new hotspot, Spanish-style Restaurant Porrón, is a wine room like no other found in Connecticut’s Capital City, and it is now being managed by Sommelier Tim Ratchford, the new General Manager of Porrón&Piña. Anchored by a lively, spanish-tiled floor and centered by a wooden tasting table that can be raised and lowered for functionality, the wine room is home to and provides for a wine list that offers over 40 wines by the glass. While varietals from around the globe are available, there is a natural lend toward the Spanish regions that compliment Chef Anderson’s spanish-inspired menu. Furthermore, Bartender Tim Cabral maintains an extensive cocktail list complete with a wide range of Sherry’s, also indigenous to Spain.
This winter, Ratchford and Cabral are kicking-off a three part series of tastings on the last Thursday of the month based on the “Parts Unknown” of Spain. This is an opportunity to begin introducing interested patrons to these globally-renowned wines, many of which are available at an incredible value in comparison to their French and Italian counterparts. They will begin with an “Intro to Spain,” followed by a focus on Catalunya and Andalusia. Ratchford contends, “We have over 25 bottles on the wine list that are under $40.00 and definitely over-deliver on finish. We want our regulars to feel familiar with them.” The beverage tastings will be offered at $50.00 a person (tax and gratuity included) and include small tapas.
