Sketching in the Galleries: Nusantara at Yale University Art Gallery

Guests can experience the timeless art-school tradition of sketching from life at Sketching in the Galleries: Nusantara, taking place on Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at the Yale University Art Gallery in New Haven.
First inaugurated in 1867, Street Hall—now part of the Yale University Art Gallery—was home to the nation’s first art school, where students from various disciplines sketched from live models and original artworks. This program continues that creative legacy by inviting participants to engage in guided sketching sessions within the exhibition Nusantara: Six Centuries of Indonesian Textiles.
The event offers a hands-on opportunity to explore the gallery’s remarkable textile collection while embracing a centuries-old artistic practice in an inspiring museum setting.
