Sketching Dreams: Photography and the Imagination at Yale University Art Gallery

Explore the intersection of art and the subconscious during Sketching Dreams: Photography and the Imagination, a thought-provoking discussion led by Anna Russell, Exhibitions Production Coordinator and dream artist, alongside colleagues from the Department of Photography. The program examines the work of Grete Stern, who co-founded the Berlin-based photography studio ringl + pit in 1930 with Ellen Auerbach.
After emigrating to Argentina, Stern created her remarkable Sueños (Dreams) series from 1948 to 1951—an imaginative collection of photomontages accompanying a magazine column that analyzed readers’ dreams. This event offers insight into how photography can visualize the surreal and psychological landscapes of the mind.
The program will take place on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 12:30 to 1:30 pm at the Yale University Art Gallery, 1111 Chapel Street, New Haven, Connecticut. Admission is free and open to the public.
