Rush Conducts Brahms 4 at The Bushnell

The Hartford Symphony Orchestra explores the shared traditions and emotions that connect people during Rush Conducts Brahms 4, part of the 2026–2027 HSO Masterworks Series, with performances November 20 through 22, 2026.

Music Director finalist Jonathan Taylor Rush leads the concert, which considers the ways people dance, celebrate, mourn and remember through music. The program opens with Carlos Simon’s Four Black American Dances, featuring infectious rhythms rooted in musical traditions and collective expression.

Cellist Maja Bogdanović joins the orchestra for Camille Saint-Saëns’ Cello Concerto No. 1, showcasing her artistry before the program concludes with Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 4. Written more than 140 years ago, the symphony remains a powerful work exploring emotion, expression and human connection.

Performances are scheduled for Friday, November 20, at 8 pm; Saturday, November 21, at 8 pm; and Sunday, November 22, at 3 pm. All performances take place in the Belding Theater at The Bushnell, 166 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, Connecticut 06106. The concert is part of the 2026–2027 Hartford Symphony Orchestra Masterworks Series, and all tickets are sold through the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. Additional information is available at Hartford Symphony Orchestra Masterworks Series and The Bushnell event page.
