RiverQuest – Selden Island Hike at Connecticut River Museum

Embark on a rare outdoor adventure with the Connecticut River Museum’s RiverQuest – Selden Island Hike on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. Departing at 8:00 am from the Museum aboard the RiverQuest vessel, guests will journey to Selden Neck State Park for a day of guided hiking and exploration on this 607-acre island located in the Connecticut River.

Participants can choose from three themed hikes:

• Selden Nature Hike: Explore the island’s lush woodlands and tidal marshes with a CRM educator while learning about plant life and nature journaling.
• Birding Selden Island: Led by professional bird guide and author Frank Gallo, this hike focuses on spotting breeding birds, including warblers, vireos, and Bald Eagles.
• History of Selden Island Hike: Discover the remnants of the island’s past, including old farm buildings and a historic quarry that once supplied stone pavers to New York City.

Guests should bring a packed lunch and plenty of water to enjoy on the island. Physical fitness is required for all hikes, as trail conditions may vary and include steep sections. Sturdy footwear is essential.
