Patriotic Paddle and Picnic at the Connecticut River Museum

Celebrate the season on the water during the Patriotic Paddle and Picnic on August 29, 2026, from 11 am to 2 pm at the Connecticut River Museum. Hosted in partnership with the Essex Land Trust, this special event combines a guided paddle, live music, and a picnic overlooking the Connecticut River.
The day begins with an intermediate-level guided canoe and kayak paddle from Essex Village to Historic Falls River Cove, led by Essex Land Trust Vice President Jeff Croyle. Participants should arrive early to check in, sign a waiver, and launch their own canoe or kayak before the trip. Volunteers will be available at the boat ramp to assist with unloading, and parking is available in the Museum’s Lay House upper lot, with additional street parking nearby.
Following the paddle, participants are invited to enjoy a bring-your-own picnic on the Museum lawn beginning at 1 pm. The Corinthian Jazz Band will perform a selection of American favorites and patriotic music, concluding with a medley honoring the nation’s armed forces. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
Guests are encouraged to decorate their boats and wear red, white, and blue for the occasion. Participants must provide their own canoe or kayak, personal flotation device, and other required safety equipment. Dogs are welcome but must remain secured while on the water and on a leash while on land.
The event is weather dependent. Updates will be posted on the Connecticut River Museum’s Facebook page if conditions require changes.
The Connecticut River Museum is located at 67 Main Street, Essex, CT 06426. For more information, visit https://ctrivermuseum.org/events/patriotic-paddle-2026/.
