On the Lathe: The Artistry of Turning Wood at Yale University Art Gallery

The Leslie P. and George H. Hume American Furniture Study Center at the Yale Collection Studies Center, West Campus, hosts a presentation and live demonstration with Beth Ireland on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 12:30 to 1:30 pm.

Ireland, a skilled architectural woodworker and furniture maker who identifies primarily as a sculptor, shares her passion for the meditative practice of wood turning. Known for her national teaching program, Turning Around America, she has introduced countless students to the art of working with a lathe. During this event, Ireland will draw on her extensive career, provide insights into the craft, and showcase her expertise in creating lathe-turned objects.
