Of the Birds, According to Their Kinds Book Talk with Stanley Kolber

October 4, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Join Stanley Kolber for a talk and book signing about his brand new book, Of the Birds, According to Their Kinds. The book is filled with artistically rendered photographs and engaging prose, bringing the reader into an avian world throbbing with life, overflowing with beauty.

Stanley was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., and now, he and his wife, Christina Clayton, live in Old Lyme. After working at the United States Justice Department in Washington, D.C., he had a long career practicing law in New York City.

Although he had been birding for many years, it was not until 2001, in part propelled by the destruction of his World Trade Center office on 9/11, that he undertook photography as a second career. His work includes abstract forms from nature, wildlife, and images shot in New York City. His first love was birds, and birds continue to be is primary focus.

Stanley’s photographs are held in private and corporate collections, and have been accepted in juried exhibitions in Chelsea, N.Y., The Salmagundi Club of New York, and the Mystic Museum of Art in Mystic, CT. We have been pleased to have Stanley do workshops in nature photography each winter.

Stanley’s work reflects a spiritual bond to the natural world and is informed by a belief that we are stewards of that world, obliged to defend and protect its creatures. Indeed, the title of this book, his first, is drawn from the story of Noah in the Old Testament.

Through this book, Stanley hopes to offer the reader, beyond the specific and immense joys of birding, a path to a deepening respect for birds and the lives they lead among us, as kin, and to do so by filling the eye.
