Neurodivergence and Art Museums at Yale Center for British Art

Art museums hold extraordinary potential to engage neurodivergent visitors through the richness and complexity of their collections, yet they often maintain barriers that limit accessibility. This two-day symposium, Neurodivergence and Art Museums, explores how museums can evolve as inclusive public spaces that welcome individuals with a wide range of neuro-abilities and create opportunities for dialogue, connection, and innovation.

Bringing together voices from medicine, public health, architecture, engineering, design, and museum education, the event will examine how to empower neurodivergent people to experience art museums on their own terms. Panelists will discuss the creation of neuro-inclusive environments, audiences for neuro-inclusive design, and how neurodivergent visitors can navigate and make use of cultural spaces. These cross-disciplinary conversations will consider innovative ways to open museums to more diverse communities.

The symposium will take place on Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm and Friday, October 24, 2025, from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm at the Yale Center for British Art, 1080 Chapel Street, New Haven, CT. Registration is recommended but not required to attend.
