Modern Love: An Appreciation at Yale University Art Gallery
February 18 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Themes of love and human connection are examined during this Gallery Talk presented in honor of Valentine’s Day. Mark D. Mitchell, Holcombe T. Green Curator of American Paintings and Sculpture, explores how artists working in the modern era addressed intimacy, relationships, and emotional life amid periods of social change and conflict. The talk highlights works by artists such as Malvina Hoffman, Edward Hopper, Horace Pippin, and Florine Stettheimer, offering insight into how modern American art reflects both the complexities of its time and the enduring search for connection.
The program takes place on February 18, 2026, from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm at the Yale University Art Gallery in New Haven.
