Michael Sterling: ORCA – The Legendary JAWS Replica at Garde Arts Center

As part of the Connecticut Maritime Heritage Festival, boat builder Michael Sterling will appear at the Garde Arts Center for a special charity meet and greet highlighting his recreation of the legendary ORCA from the film Jaws. Sterling, founder of Sterling Marine Carpentry in Florida, has spent nearly four decades crafting yachts and boats, and his ambitious re-creation of the iconic ORCA for the movie’s 50th anniversary has earned international attention.
Originally from the United Kingdom, Sterling has long combined technical precision with a love for the sea, building vessels that merge functionality with beauty. The ORCA project is both a tribute to Jaws and a showcase of his craftsmanship, created with the help of collaborators including Michael Fulcher of Eyedeas.net. His recreation, unveiled at Martha’s Vineyard, has been praised for its authenticity and detail, offering fans of the film a chance to connect with a piece of cinematic history.
This event offers attendees the opportunity to hear Sterling’s story and celebrate his dedication to preserving cultural heritage through boatbuilding. Proceeds from the evening will benefit shark conservation programs at Mystic Aquarium.
The event takes place on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 6 pm at the Garde Arts Center, 325 State Street, New London, Connecticut. Tickets and additional information can be found at www.returnofalegend.com.
