July 26, 2025 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Mega Mammal Day at the Connecticut State Museum of Natural History

Families and animal lovers are invited to explore the fascinating world of mammals at Mega Mammal Day, taking place Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Connecticut State Museum of Natural History in the Gant West Building’s Light Court in Storrs.

This free public event will feature an exciting array of exhibits and hands-on activities celebrating both current and extinct mammalian species. Guests can explore skulls, taxidermy specimens, and full displays of rare mammals from around the globe—including one of New England’s largest moose. Activities will include scavenger hunts, crafts, and games designed for all ages.

Interactive learning stations will demonstrate how teeth reveal dietary habits, how to identify animals by their tracks and droppings, and offer insights into Connecticut’s Ice Age residents, including viewing preserved mastodon remains discovered in Farmington.

Visitors can also enjoy a special mask-making workshop inspired by mammals, presented by the Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry. Representatives from the Mansfield Public Library will be on-site with books and library card registration.

The event is free and open to the public. For accommodation requests, contact the museum at 860-486-4460 or CSMNHinfo@uconn.edu by Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
