Made to Last: Textiles of Early Connecticut at Connecticut Museum of Culture and History

As part of its 200th birthday celebration, the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History will present Made to Last: Textiles of Early Connecticut on Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 6 pm to 7 pm.
This interactive program features Connecticut weaver Margaret Liljedahl, who will explore the history and evolution of textile production in New England. Using examples from the museum’s historic collection, she will demonstrate how weaving techniques have changed over time while reflecting on the essential role textiles played in the culture and economy of colonial Connecticut.
A West Hartford native, Liljedahl first encountered an antique loom in a Connecticut museum. Over the past decade, she has studied historic weaving practices and worked with museums and historical sites across the region to revive traditional barn looms. An active member of the Handweavers Guild of Connecticut, she is dedicated to preserving fiber arts traditions and connecting communities to the tools and skills of the past.
Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for Connecticut Museum members at levels under $150, and free for members at $150 and above.
The Connecticut Museum of Culture and History is located at 1 Elizabeth Street, Hartford, Connecticut. For more details, contact Adult Programs Manager Natalie Belanger at nbelanger@connecticutmuseum.org or visit connecticutmuseum.org.
