Lunch & Learn: A Culture of the Caribbean – Taíno Tribes Lesson at Mattatuck Museum

Explore the history and living traditions of the Taíno people during Lunch & Learn: A Culture of the Caribbean – Taíno Tribes Lesson at the Mattatuck Museum on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, from 11 am to 1 pm.

Guests are invited to bring their own lunch or order in advance from Sweet Bella @ The MATT while enjoying a presentation by Michelle Bangash, historian for the Higuayagua Taíno of the Caribbean and a longtime educator. The program introduces audiences to Taíno history and contemporary cultural practices preserved by people living in or descended from communities throughout the Caribbean. A question-and-answer session will follow each presentation.

The lesson will be offered in both English and Spanish, with the English presentation from 11 to 11:45 am and the Spanish presentation from 12 to 12:45 pm.

Admission is $10 for non-members and $5 for museum members.
