Lunch and Learn – The People and the Law in Revolutionary Massachusetts at Connecticut Museum of Culture and History

Legal conflict and political change are explored during this lunchtime program examining how debates over the courts shaped Revolutionary Massachusetts. The discussion looks at pivotal moments bookending the Revolutionary era, from the court closings that followed resistance to the Coercive Acts in 1774 to the unrest that led to Shays’s Rebellion, and considers how Massachusetts Patriots grappled with the future of the law. Questions surrounding the role of English common law and whether the Revolution offered an opportunity to redefine the legal system are woven throughout the program.

The program takes place on February 10, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History, 1 Elizabeth Street, Hartford, CT.
