Lunch and Learn: Telling Connecticut’s Stories with Grant-Funded Roadside Markers from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation

Learn how to preserve and celebrate local history during the free virtual Lunch and Learn program, Telling Connecticut’s Stories with Grant-Funded Roadside Markers from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation, on August 25, 2026, from 12 pm to 1 pm.
Presented by the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History, this online workshop introduces the William G. Pomeroy Foundation’s Legends & Lore Marker Grant Program®, which helps communities recognize and commemorate local folklore, traditions, and stories that have been passed down through generations. The Connecticut Museum serves as the program’s state partner.
Speakers Emma MacDowell, Research Historian and Engagement Associate at the William G. Pomeroy Foundation, and Kate Schramm, Director of Cultural Sustainability, will discuss the importance of preserving community traditions and explain how roadside markers can help share local history with future generations. Participants will also learn how to prepare a competitive grant application, with practical guidance on the application process and examples of successful projects. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation.
The Foundation’s next Legends & Lore Marker Grant Program application period runs from August 24 through October 12, 2026.
This virtual program is free and open to the public. Advance registration is required to receive the Zoom link.
