Loyalty and Zeal: Algonkians of the Revolution at Weston History & Culture Center

The Weston History & Culture Center will explore the contributions and experiences of Algonkian peoples during the American Revolution with Loyalty and Zeal: Algonkians of the Revolution on Sunday, October 4, from 2 pm to 4 pm. Guests can stop by anytime during the program for a demonstration and discussion led by Drew Shuptar-Rayvis, a citizen of the Pocomoke Indian Nation.

The program will examine the material culture and trade of Algonkian peoples during the Revolution, as well as the complex political choices surrounding patriotism, toryism, and neutrality. Shuptar-Rayvis will bring artifacts and reproduction pieces and wear traditional clothing while discussing the contributions, struggles, and sacrifices of Algonkian peoples during the War of American Independence. Guests will also have an opportunity to ask questions.

The free event will be held outdoors, weather permitting, with the program moving indoors in the event of rain. Registration is encouraged. It is part of the “America 250: The Revolutionary Spirit Lecture Series,” co-sponsored by the Friends of the Weston Public Library, the Weston History & Culture Center, and the League of Women Voters of Weston, with support from the Weston America 250 Advisory Group.
