Lighthouse Adventure Cruises to Greens Ledge Light and Sheffield Island Lighthouse

The Norwalk Seaport Association and the Greens Ledge Light Preservation Society will offer special five-hour lighthouse adventure cruises on June 6, July 11, and August 8, inviting guests to explore two of New England’s most historic maritime landmarks in a single excursion.
Departing at 8:30 am from the Norwalk Seaport Association dock at 90 Water Street in Norwalk and returning at approximately 1:30 pm, the guided cruise combines history, architecture, storytelling, and coastal scenery along Long Island Sound.
The excursion begins with a cruise through Norwalk Harbor to Greens Ledge Lighthouse, one of only 33 surviving “Spark Plug” style lighthouses in the United States. Built in 1902 and recently restored, the lighthouse now welcomes visitors to explore areas including the Beacon Room, the Trombos Research Center, and the historic Maclean Watch Room. Guests can also enjoy panoramic harbor views from the outdoor deck while learning about the lighthouse’s colorful history, including stories of pirates and buried treasure connected to the region.
The journey continues to Sheffield Island Lighthouse, a Victorian-era landmark built in 1868 and listed as a National Historic Site. Visitors can tour restored lighthouse rooms that reflect 19th-century lighthouse life, climb the tower for views stretching toward the Manhattan skyline, and relax with a picnic in the island’s shaded seaside pavilion. The island’s history includes tales of smugglers, pirates, and bootleggers that add to the immersive maritime experience.
The cruises are designed for visitors of all ages and offer a unique opportunity to experience Connecticut’s coastal history and scenic beauty from the water.
Additional summer programming from the Norwalk Seaport Association includes daily and weekend cruises to Sheffield Island, sunset cruises through Norwalk Harbor, Tuesday clambakes in July and August, and Pirates Day festivities on July 18 and 19.
