Lecture: Florine Stettheimer and Americana at Fairfield University Art Museum

April 16 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

An engaging art history lecture takes place on April 16, 2026 from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Fairfield University Art Museum, 1073 North Benson Road, Fairfield, CT 06824.

Art historian Barbara Bloemink, PhD, will present a talk on the distinctive and visionary artist Florine Stettheimer. Known for her vibrant and unconventional style, Stettheimer used her work to explore themes of politics, identity, and social change, often incorporating subtle commentary on issues such as anti-Semitism, racism, women’s rights, and gender expression.

The lecture coincides with the exhibition “For Which It Stands…,” which features one of Stettheimer’s works, and offers deeper insight into her artistic legacy and cultural impact. Bloemink, author of Florine Stettheimer: A Biography and other publications, brings extensive research and expertise to the discussion.

The talk is part of the Edwin L. Weisl, Jr. Lectureships in Art History, funded by the Robert Lehman Foundation, and will also be livestreamed for virtual attendees.
