Learn to Prepare Fiddleheads at Fiddleheads Food Co-op

Learn to Prepare Fiddleheads at Fiddleheads Food Co-op in New London on May 22nd from 6:30 to 7:30 pm

In this workshop Rachel Sayet (Mohegan Tribe) will be teaching us how to prepare fiddleheads, a wild Native vegetable that is only available for a few weeks out of the year.

Rachel received her bachelor’s degree in restaurant management from Cornell University in 2007. While attending Cornell, Rachel worked in kitchens and took many culinary classes. Upon graduation, Rachel worked as a personal chef. She later went on to receive her masters in anthropology at Harvard University, where she began to study food in a cultural context.

Rachel has been working for the Mohegan Cultural Department since 2013. Since then, she has also been researching indigenous foods in New England, and presenting her work throughout the country at conferences and classrooms, most recently the Yale Sustainable Food Symposium. She has also begun food sovereignty initiatives at the Mohegan Tribe; organizing gardening events, cooking and storytelling workshops for Mohegan youth, and a Native cooking show. Her most recent project is the Native Food Discussion Group, created in order to share knowledge about seasonal eating, harvesting, growing and fishing practices.
