A New England Holiday Tradition awaits at Mystic Seaport. Mystic Seaport invites you to join us for an evening of seasonal cheer with Lantern Light Tours, “The Spirit of the Holiday: A Christmas Ghost Story.” Set on Christmas Eve in the year 1876, the play unfolds through five scenes of historical hilarity featuring a gentlemen’s athletic contest, a spirited circle dance, a visit with old St. Nick, and a horse and carriage ride. As the story evolves, you’ll uncover the true Spirit of the Holiday… with a little help from a Victorian Spiritualist! Written by Rebecca Bayreuther Donohue, a local historian and author, “The Spirit of the Holiday: A Christmas Ghost Story” showcases some unexpected holiday traditions to create an authentic and awe-inspiring experience!
November 24-25, December 1-2, 8-9, 15-17, and 22-23
December 1, 8, and 17: 5-8:45 p.m., tours begin every 15 minutes
November 24-25 and December 2, 9, 15-16, and 22-23: 5 – 10 p.m., tours begin every 15 minutes
Each performance of Lantern Light Tours is an approximately 70-minute tour that covers roughly half a mile of uneven terrain including cobblestone, wood planking, grass, gravel, and stairs. Audience members walk or stand for the majority of the show. Because performances occur in all weather conditions, we strongly recommend the use of seasonal outerwear and appropriate shoes. New for 2017, the horse-drawn carriages cannot accommodate wheelchairs. Guests in wheelchairs will receive a personalized theatrical alternative to the carriage-ride experience. Visitors requiring a wheelchair or with accessibility needs should call 860-572-0711 to book their tour.
Performances of Lantern Light Tours require a special ticket in lieu of general admission. Performances are appropriate for all ages, though not recommended for children younger than the age of 4.
Advance registration is required. Tour size is limited to 16 tickets.
