JumpFest’s Human Dogsled Race

February 11, 2022

JumpFest’s Human Dogsled Race

Are you up for some quirky winter fun? If you are, then get a group of your friends together to enter JumpFest’s Human Dogsled Race! This unusual winter event is part of the 96th annual Ski Jumping Championships at Satre Hill on Indian Cave Road in Salisbury, Connecticut on Friday, February 11, 2022. Jumpfest events take place on Friday, February 11, Saturday, February 12, and, the U.S. Eastern Division Ski Jumping Championship on Sunday, February 13. Jumpfest is organized by the Salisbury Winter Sports Association (SWSA).

The human dogsled team, taking place around 8 p.m. on Friday, February 11 consists of six people, five pulling, and one rider. It is so much fun to participate or watch these colorful sleds and costumed teams race against one another! The teams compete in timed; two-teamed races. Trophies are awarded to the three fastest teams in several categories, and bragging rights are an extra perk.

There is also a people’s choice trophy for the most unusual sled and costumes. If you want to compete in the Human Dog Sled Race contact info@jumpfest.org and tell them that you want to register. The Association will respond with all the documentation and rules. Registration is just $25 per team and is used to help sustain the mission of SWSA. Registration for new teams is also open on the evening of the event.

The 96th annual JumpFest gives viewers the chance to see this amazing sport in action with some jumpers traveling more than 200 feet through the air at more than 50 miles an hour. There are many events to watch at Jumpfest including target jumping, junior jumpers, and the expert jumpers participating in Sunday’s highly anticipated Eastern U.S. Ski Jumping Championships. Part of the fun is ringing your cowbell to cheer on your favorites and guessing who is the fastest — and highest jumper in real-time – and, wondering if the 231-foot record will be broken! The winners of the U.S. Eastern Ski Jumping Championships will compete in the U.S. National Championships against teams from all over the country that are coming to Salisbury, Connecticut February 22 – 27 for the U.S. Junior Olympics.

And, if you work up an appetite at Jumpfest, no worries, the Cook Shack offers a range of burgers, dogs, hot chocolate, and more, and the Low N Slow Food Truck serves BBQ and authentic Poutine all three days. There will also be a wine tent, a hot toddy tent, and the Great Falls Brewing Company’s beer tent.

At this in-person outside winter event, there is plenty of room to social distance and still have an excellent view of the ski jumps. Tickets will be available at the gate and are $15 for adults on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Kids 12 and under are free all three days. The ski jump complex is located at Satre Hill on Indian Cave Road in Salisbury. Before setting out check wjumpfest.org for updates, scheduled changes, or for more information or email the Association at info@jumpfest.org. The Salisbury Winter Sports Association is complying with all State COVID-19 regulations to keep spectators and athletes safe.
