Independence Day Celebration Mystic Seaport Museum
July 4, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
The Independence Day Celebration will be held on July 4th from 9 am to 5 pm at the Mystic Seaport Museum in Mystic. Join us as we celebrate America’s birthday circa 1876! An exciting day begins with boat races on the river and, new this year, a pedestrian walking race around the Green. From military exercises with the “boys in blue” to an old-fashioned spelling bee for children, the delight continues all morning long.
At high noon, picnic alongside your 19th-century neighbors on the Village Green, and cheer for your favorite display in the Independence Day Parade at one o’clock sharp. Small patriots can even craft hats to wear in their very own section of the parade. A rousing 1876 Independence Day ceremony is followed by an elegant concert featuring the Mystic Silver Cornet Band on the Village Green.
In the afternoon, visitors can play croquet with residents of 1876 Mystic and watch live theatrical performances by the Mystic Seaport Tale-Makers. Everybody can help churn ice cream and reap the delicious rewards. And don’t forget to save some energy for 19th-century lawn games on the Village Green. The New England seashore is the perfect place to celebrate America’s 100th birthday, and we look forward to seeing you there!
All activities are included with Museum admission or membership.
