In Our Nation’s Defense at the Submarine Force Library Museum

Discover the rich military history of the Thames River region during In Our Nation’s Defense, a special guided tour hosted by the Submarine Force Library Museum in Groton from July 11–13, 2025.
This immersive tour traces the area’s pivotal role in protecting the nation, from its Revolutionary War roots to its status as the Submarine Capital of the World. Visitors will explore a Revolutionary battle site, learn about Benedict Arnold’s infamous betrayal and the burning of New London, and gain insight into the growth of submarine warfare and shipbuilding that continues to define the region today.
Highlights include views of the United States Coast Guard Academy, Submarine Base New London, and sites where modern submarines are built. Along the way, guests will hear stories of local heroism, strategic defense, and maritime innovation that shaped our nation’s military history.
