HSO Masterworks Series: Rachmaninoff & Rhapsody in Blue at The Bushnell

The Hartford Symphony Orchestra concludes its 2024-2025 Masterworks Series with Rachmaninoff & Rhapsody in Blue at The Bushnell in Hartford on Friday, June 6, 2025.

Pianist Clayton Stephenson returns to the stage to perform Gershwin’s iconic Rhapsody in Blue, a beloved piece celebrated for its sweeping melodies and fusion of classical and jazz styles. The performance marks the grand finale of Stephenson’s season-long residency with the HSO.

The program also features John Adams’ Doctor Atomic Symphony (2007), a work based on his opera about physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer and the moral complexities surrounding the development of the atomic bomb. The symphony includes a moving trumpet solo adapted from one of the opera’s most poignant arias, offering both emotional depth and a glimmer of hope to close the season.
