HSO Masterworks Series: Gershwin, Marsalis & Bartók at The Bushnell

The Hartford Symphony Orchestra launches its 2025–2026 Masterworks Series with Gershwin, Marsalis & Bartók, a season opener filled with drama, jazz, and symphonic brilliance. Performances will take place at The Bushnell in Hartford on:

  • Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 8 pm

The evening begins with Paul Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, an enchanting and mischievous work brought to popular fame by Disney’s Fantasia. HSO then presents Bartók’s gripping Suite from The Miraculous Mandarin, performed by the orchestra for the first time in more than 20 years.

The program continues with American innovation, featuring Wynton Marsalis’ jazz-inspired Concerto for Tubist and Orchestra with HSO principal tuba Jarrod Briley as soloist. The concert concludes with Gershwin’s An American in Paris, a vibrant masterpiece that fuses jazz rhythms with symphonic color, perfectly capturing the energy of a bustling city.
