Honoring the Spirit of Colt: A Monumental Restoration at Colt Park

History, art, and community come together at Honoring the Spirit of Colt: A Monumental Restoration on July 1, 2026, at Colt Park in Hartford. Presented as part of the Long Weekend Hartford festival, this free public program celebrates the restoration and rededication of the historic Colt Monument.

The afternoon begins with an opening ceremony and monument rededication at 12:30 pm, recognizing the recent restoration of the landmark sculpture created by artist John Massey Rhind. At 1 pm, guests can learn more about the monument’s history and conservation through a discussion led by Erin Monroe, Krieble Curator of American Paintings and Sculpture at The Wadsworth, and sculpture conservator Francis Miller. A guided walking tour of Coltsville follows at 2 pm, led by Alan Amelinckx, Interpretation and Education Program Manager for Coltsville National Historical Park and Springfield Armory.

In addition to the educational programs, visitors can enjoy family-friendly activities presented by the Colt Park Foundation, live entertainment, local food trucks, and hot-air balloon rides organized by the City of Hartford. The event offers an opportunity to explore Hartford’s rich industrial and cultural history while enjoying a festive day in one of the city’s historic parks.

The program takes place from 12 pm to 4 pm at Colt Park, 158 Wawarme Avenue, Hartford, CT 06114. Admission is free.
