Hogarth: His Art, Life, and Times at Yale Center for British Art

A symposium celebrating the life and scholarship of Professor Ronald Paulson (1930–2024) takes place Wednesday, October 14, from 4:30 to 7 pm in the Lecture Hall at the Yale Center for British Art. The free public event honors Paulson’s contributions to the study of renowned English engraver and painter William Hogarth, described by Horace Walpole as “that great and original genius.”
The symposium recognizes the gift of Paulson’s papers on Hogarth and a legacy endowment establishing a fellowship at the Lewis Walpole Library in memory of his son, Andrew Meredith Paulson. Speakers will present new research exploring Hogarth’s art and influence through multidisciplinary perspectives, with panel themes including “Paulson’s Hogarth,” “Drawing,” “Nation and Empire,” and “Social and Political Critique.”
Organized by the Lewis Walpole Library in collaboration with the Yale Center for British Art, Yale Library, and the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, the symposium is free and open to the public. Registration is requested.
