Hogarth: His Art, Life, and Times at Yale Center for British Art

A symposium exploring the art and legacy of renowned English engraver and painter William Hogarth takes place Friday, October 16, from 10:15 am to 4:45 pm in the Lecture Hall at the Yale Center for British Art. The free public event celebrates Professor Ronald Paulson (1930–2024) and honors the gift of his papers on Hogarth, along with a legacy endowment establishing a fellowship at the Lewis Walpole Library in memory of his son, Andrew Meredith Paulson.
Speakers will present new research on Hogarth through multidisciplinary perspectives, with panel themes including “Paulson’s Hogarth,” “Drawing,” “Nation and Empire,” and “Social and Political Critique.” Described by Horace Walpole as “that great and original genius,” Hogarth remains a significant figure in British art and cultural history.
Organized by the Lewis Walpole Library in collaboration with the Yale Center for British Art, Yale Library, and the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, the symposium is free and open to the public. Registration is requested.
