Helicopter Day & Father’s Day Open Cockpit New England Air Museum

The Helicopter Day and Father’s Day Open Cockpit will be held June 16th from 10 am to 3 pm at the New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks. We will feature many helicopters from our collection with over 20 helicopters and equipment on display. Including some that have been in storage for several years and are not normally open to the public. These will comprise helicopters from the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, as well as, from the civilian world. Several of the helicopters will be open to the public for tours and there will be experts available to explain the aircraft and their operation.

Included on display will be the 22,000 pound Sikorsky CH-54 “Tarhe,” – sometimes called the “Skycrane,” the Bell UH-1B “Iriquois,” – also referred to as the “Huey,”, the Bell AH-1S “Cobra,” Gyrodyne QH-50C “DASH” Navy drone, an award winning man-powered helicopter, and many others. In addition, at 12:30 Daniel Libertino, President of Sikorsky Historical Archives, will give a presentation of the history of Sikorsky Aircraft.

The Wings ‘n Things Gift Shop staying open until 5:00 p.m. Sneakers or rubber-soled shoes are recommended. Food will be available for purchase from Kane’s Market, on a cash only basis.
