Education @ Hartford Stage has announced a Fall line-up of 7 youth classes and 5 adult classes.

Youth Class Schedule

Musical Theatre Dance
Ages 5-8
October 8 – December 3, 2020 • Thursdays: 4:30 – 5:30pm
All classes will take place via Zoom

Come join us for a fun hour of movement and dance exploring fun-filled musical theatre tunes. No experience necessary!

Creative Dramatics
Ages 5-8
September 30 – November 18, 2020 • Wednesdays: 4:30 – 5:30pm
All classes will take place via Zoom

In this class, students will use theatre skills such as improvisation, movement and teamwork to foster communication and explore social-emotional learning.

Playwriting
Ages 9+
October 8 – December 3, 2020 • Thursdays: 4:00 – 5:00pm
All classes will take place via Zoom

Students will learn techniques to create their own piece of theatre. Work will be developed through writing prompts, research and free writing.

Comedy Improv
Ages 9+
October 6 – November 24, 2020 • Tuesdays: 4:00 – 5:00pm
All classes will take place via Zoom

Learn the basics of improv through fun and engaging games. Emphasis will be put on team building, listening skills and thinking on your feet.

Voice Over Acting
Ages 13+
October 19 – November 9, 2020 • Mondays: 4:00 – 5:00pm
All classes will take place via Zoom

Students will learn the specific techniques utilized in voice-over work. Have you always wondered what it would be like to be the voice of a cartoon? What about doing commercials? Then this is the class for you! This class will be taught by a professional voice-over actor with many years of experience in this fascinating field. No experience or special equipment needed.

Hartford Stage Drama Club • Grade Level 5-8

October 6 – December 5, 2020 • 4:00 – 6:00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays (no rehearsal on 11/26).
Dress rehearsal will take place from 4:00 – 6:00pm on Friday, December 4.
*Production Date: Saturday, December 5 at 2:00pm
All rehearsals and performances will take place via Zoom

Join our virtual Drama Club! This is an afterschool program that will meet twice per week. Students will participate in an online production. Schedules will be developed based on the needs of the production. Students may also be asked to pre-record some parts of the show with guidance of the instructors. Show selection will depend on the number of students enrolled, and students may not be required to attend every rehearsal.

Work one-on-one with one of our teaching artists!  Lessons will be scheduled by appointment only in 30 minute sessions.  Attention will be given to voice and speech work, character development, physical acting, audition techniques and material selection.

College Prep Coaching Package
Lessons scheduled by appointment. Please call to schedule.
Semester-long package (includes 12 weekly 45 minute lessons, plus an audition panel with area theatre professionals): $600

This package includes 12 extended-length 45 minute lessons where you will receive guidance on selecting audition monologues, text development and audition prep. At the culmination of the session, students will have the opportunity to perform their material to a panel of industry professionals to receive valuable feedback. The panel will include Hartford Stage’s own Artistic Director, Melia Bensussen.

Adult Class Schedule

Acting for the Camera Online
Mondays: 10/5-11/23 • 7:00 – 9:00 pm
Instructor: Liam Toner

Learn the technical side of acting in front of the camera using your own home computer. This eight-week online class will focus on performance techniques for the specific genres of commercials, film and television. Students will work on camera and will have the opportunity to review their work, receive feedback, and explore angles, distance, and performance techniques specific to film. All levels welcome. Classes will be held via Zoom, and login information will be provided upon registration.

Scene Study Online
Wednesdays: 10/7-11/25 • 6:00 – 8:00 pm

Keep your creative muscles active without leaving home! In this eight-week online class, students will practice making strong acting choices as they explore scenes from popular contemporary plays. Some experience recommended. Classes will be held via Zoom, and login information will be provided upon registration.

Intro to Acting Online
Thursdays: 10/1–11/19 • 7:00 – 9:00 pm

Try your hand at acting from the comfort of your own living room!  This eight-week online course provides a foundation of acting skills and techniques for beginning actors. Through improvisation, monologues and games, actors will develop creativity and confidence while learning to use their natural impulses on stage. No previous experience needed! Classes will be held via Zoom, and login information will be provided upon registration.

Accents and Dialects Online

Audition Basics Online

Using time at home to prepare for auditions next season? Come explore audition etiquette and keys to confidence in this two-hour intensive workshop. Learn valuable dos and don’ts in the rehearsal room with Hartford Stage Artistic Associate and director of Cry It Out and A Christmas Carol, Rachel Alderman.  Memorized monologues are welcome but not required; this class is open to all experience levels. Class will be held via Zoom, and login information will be provided upon registration
