Hans Hofmann at Yale University Art Gallery

December 10, 2025 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
Hans Hofmann at Yale University Art Gallery

Art enthusiasts can explore the legacy of Hans Hofmann in a focused gallery talk highlighting the artist’s dual role as an influential teacher and a pioneering modern painter. This program delves into a selection of paintings and works on paper from the Yale University Art Gallery’s collection, illustrating how Hofmann’s teaching shaped his vibrant, innovative artistic practice.

Curatorial Project Manager Michèle Wije will lead the discussion, offering insight into Hofmann’s connection to European Modernism, his experimental approach to color and form, and the dynamic tension that characterizes his work. The talk also reflects on Hofmann’s impact as an educator, from the founding of his schools in New York City and Provincetown to his transition into full-time painting.

The gallery talk takes place on December 10, 2025, from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. Participants will meet by the central column in the Gallery lobby. Space is limited.
