Greater Hartford Shakespeare Festival
July 11, 2019 - July 23, 2019
Over its three-weekend run, the Greater Hartford Shakespeare Festival will attract more than 2,000 fans, who attend each summer with family and friends, along with a picnic dinner, wine, lawn chairs and blankets.
This summer, Capital Classics stages Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor. Held outdoors on the beautiful grounds of the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford.
The Merry Wives of Windsor is a bawdy and riotous romp that stars one of Shakespeare’s most beloved comic characters. Falstaff, an impoverished knight in search of wealth, sets his sights on two married wealthy women. Little does he know, these “merry wives” have a few tricks up their sleeves.
Audience members are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy pre-show entertainment, such as stage combat demonstrations; songs by the Elizabethan Consort; lectures by local educators; and performances by local student groups, as part of Capital Classics’ Youth in Community Arts program. Be sure to visit HartfordShakespeare.org for the full Festival calendar of events.
