Great Mountain Forest Maple Sugaring Day at Great Mountain Forest Sugarhouse

A hands-on look at traditional maple sugaring takes place on Sunday, March 22, 2026 from 10 am to 2 pm at the Great Mountain Forest Sugarhouse, 201 Windrow Road, Norfolk, CT 06058.
This seasonal event offers visitors the opportunity to explore how sap is transformed into maple syrup while meeting Great Mountain Forest foresters and learning about the science behind the process. Guests can experience the full “forest-to-table” journey and take home a bottle of locally produced maple syrup.
With more than 80 years of sugaring history, Great Mountain Forest combines production with ongoing research and sustainable forestry practices. Its sugarbushes support wildlife habitat, including migratory birds, and the organization is recognized as Connecticut’s first bird-friendly maple syrup producer. The event also highlights current research efforts focused on pollinators and forest health in the face of changing climate conditions.
Visitors can also learn about the forest’s Sap House diary, an extensive record tracking sap yields, weather patterns, and ecological changes over decades, offering valuable insight into long-term environmental trends.
