Gem Collection Study Day at Florence Griswold Museum

October 10 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
Gem Collection Study Day at Florence Griswold Museum

Rocks, minerals and hands-on science take center stage during Gem Collection Study Day on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 11 am to 4 pm at the Florence Griswold Museum.

Educators from the Connecticut State Museum of Natural History in Storrs will visit the Wee Faerie Village with examples of real rocks and minerals that inspired this year’s faerie houses. Visitors can examine mineral structures up close under a microscope and see the impressive size of a giant amethyst specimen.

Budding geologists can also test their knowledge of common minerals through hands-on activities while learning more about the shapes and structures that make each specimen unique. The program offers an engaging way for families and curious visitors to explore the science behind the natural materials featured throughout Gemstone Station.

Gem Collection Study Day is included with museum admission. The program takes place at the Florence Griswold Museum, 96 Lyme Street, Old Lyme, Connecticut 06371, from 11 am to 4 pm.

Additional event information is available at Florence Griswold Museum event page.
