June 2, 2018 @ 9:15 am - 1:15 pm

Free Trails Day Hike on Birchbank Mountain, Shelton, Connecticut

National Trails Day Birchbank Mountain hike to Webb Mountain in Monroe, Housatonic overlook to overlook. Moderately difficult hike of four miles with a total elevation gain of 850 feet, but with an easy pace and many opportunities to catch your breath.

Rain date: June 3 at 1:00 pm

Meet at 9:15 and start hiking at 9:30

Hikers will start on Birchbank Trail, passing the cascades of Upper White Hills Brook, then follow the blue/white trail up the riverbank to connect with the Paugussett Trail near the Housatonic Overlook. Blue blazes then lead hikers past the Birchbank chimney and the recently improved “Poet Path” section before arriving at Webb Mountain Park at the Monroe border. There, we’ll join up with a Monroe Trails Day hike in progress, leave the blue trail, and proceed up to a Housatonic Overlook called Goat Rock where we’ll stop for lunch before continuing to the parking area where cars will have been spotted.

Pack a lunch and bring more water than you think you need. Children and leashed dogs welcome. Meet at the Birchbank Trailhead, located on Indian Well Road where the road crosses railroad tracks, ONE FULL MILE past the Indian Well beach entrance. Additional parking is on the far side of the tracks. Check the Trails Committee’s Event Blogpage for details and updates. Heavy rain postpones.
