Free Theater Tours at Westport Country Playhouse

Go behind the scenes at the historic Westport Country Playhouse during free guided theater tours on Friday, September 11, and Saturday, September 12, 2026. Beginning at 10:30 am, these 90-minute tours offer visitors a unique opportunity to explore one of Connecticut’s most celebrated performing arts venues.

Originally opened in 1931 in a converted cow barn, the Playhouse has presented more than 800 productions and welcomed legendary performers including Paul Newman, Jane Fonda, Gene Wilder, James Earl Jones, Eartha Kitt, Audra McDonald, Patti LuPone, Jonathan Groff, Leslie Odom Jr., and Kelli O’Hara. Guests will learn about the theater’s rich history while touring backstage areas, viewing set models and costumes, visiting the scene shop and dressing rooms, and standing on the iconic stage.

Tours are free, although donations to support the Playhouse are encouraged. Reservations are required, and each tour is limited to 25 participants. The Playhouse is fully accessible; guests who require stair-free access should note their needs when making a reservation.
