Free Ice Carving Competition @ Shops at Yale

Six professional ice carvers will each transform 3 blocks of ice, 900lbs, into a spectacular sculpture in only 4 hours!

Internationally recognized, award-winning sculptor Bill Covitz from Ice Matters in Cheshire, CT will be on-site competing for the grand prize. See some of Bill’s work here @ icematters.net

Hot cocoa and other specialty drinks will be available at Maison Mathis and Blue State Coffee, both cafés are only steps away from the event. The Crepes Choupette cart will be on-site selling hot, made-to-order crepes.

Enjoy live performances by several Yale a cappella groups, including The Wiffenpoofs who will kick off the event with a performance at noon. There will be great photo opportunities with the ice sculptures after the event, and a chance to enter The Shops at Yale raffle to win gift cards and other prizes.

Free event parking at the 150 York Street Garage from 11am to 7pm. Simply bring your garage parking ticket to The Shops at Yale tent for a validation during the event.

Ice Carving Demonstrations

Watch as professional ice carvers create a masterpiece from a solid block of ice on Black Friday, November 25, Small Business Saturday, November 26 and Sunday, December 3, 10 and 17 from 1:00-3:00pm in front of Wave Gallery andL’Occitane En Provence at 1046 Chapel Street. The skilled ice carvers, from Ice Matters in Cheshire, CT, will begin with a 300lb solid block of clear ice, measuring 40″ tall x 20″ wide and transform it into a Holiday Bear on Black Friday, the Elm City Elf on Small Business Saturday, a Bulldog (12/3), a penguin (12/10) and a snowman (12/17). Yale’s mascot Handsome Dan will make an appearance on December 3. The ice carvings will be accessible for photo opportunities from 3:00-4:00pm after the demonstration ends.
