Four Scholars, Four Paintings at Yale University Art Gallery

The Yale University Art Gallery’s Department of Asian Art, in partnership with the South Asian Studies Council of Yale University, presents the Alan L. Gans Lectures. This program features four distinguished scholars offering short presentations on South Asian (Indian) paintings from the Gallery’s collection.

Speakers include Dipti Khera of New York University, Mrinalini Rajagopalan of the University of Pittsburgh, John Seyller of the University of Vermont, and Emma Natalya Stein of the Smithsonian Institution. Each will highlight a favorite work and share the historical and cultural contexts that shaped its creation, exploring diverse regions, time periods, and patrons. The event will be introduced and moderated by Denise Patry Leidy, Ruth and Bruce Dayton Curator of Asian Art, and Kasturi Gupta, Director of Programs and Institutional Partnerships at Yale’s MacMillan Center.

The lecture will take place on Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Yale University Art Gallery in New Haven.
