On November 23, 2024, from 12 pm to 3 pm, step back in time and experience a traditional colonial Thanksgiving meal at Foodways: Hearth Cooking Colonial Thanksgiving at the Stanley-Whitman House in Farmington. This immersive event offers guests the chance to learn the art of colonial cooking from historic interpreter Dennis Picard, who will demonstrate how to prepare dishes like chicken (a more common choice than turkey), Hasty Pudding, and roasted root vegetables over an open hearth.
Held in the historic Whitman Tavern, this experience combines culinary history with stories and anecdotes about colonial life in New England, revealing how food, traditions, and the harvest shaped Thanksgiving in the 18th century. It’s a perfect event for history enthusiasts and food lovers alike.
