First Look: Going Modern: British Art, 1900–1960 at Yale Center for British Art

The evolution of British modernism is explored during this curator-led conversation examining the newly opened exhibition Going Modern: British Art, 1900–1960. Exhibition curators Lucinda Lax and Rachel Stratton are joined by Joanna Fiduccia, Assistant Professor of the History of Art, to discuss what distinguishes British modernism and how artists responded to a period shaped by profound social, political, and cultural change. Artworks on view trace developments influenced by two World Wars, shifting political movements, the rise and fall of the British Empire, emerging European artistic currents, and rapid technological change.
The program takes place on February 12, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Yale Center for British Art in New Haven.
