Family Activities: Celebrating America at 250 at Connecticut Museum of Culture and History

Families can mark the 250th anniversary of the United States with a day of creative activities and historical exploration at the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History on July 3, 2026.

This free family program invites visitors to reflect on special memories and milestones through hands-on art projects. Guests can decorate picture frames to showcase photos from their own America at 250 celebrations, whether that includes fireworks, family gatherings, museum visits, or other meaningful experiences. In the museum’s Inspire Center, participants of all ages can create unique commemorative keepsakes inspired by historical objects such as medals, statues, and souvenir plates from the museum’s collection.

While visiting, families can also explore the museum’s exhibitions Drawn Here: Stories of Hartford’s North End and Rebellious, which highlight stories of change, community, and resilience throughout Connecticut history.

Visitors may also take home a Family Activity Kit filled with crafts, activities, and collection images. In recognition of America at 250, the kits focus on the journeys of immigrant families to Connecticut, family history, and the importance of community connections.

The program takes place from 10 am to 5 pm on July 3, 2026, at the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History, 1 Elizabeth Street, Hartford, CT 06105. Museum admission and participation in all activities are free.
