Fairfield University Spring 2026 Writers Colloquium in Austin, Texas

A full day of readings, conversation, and hands-on writing workshops comes to Austin on Saturday, March 7 from 10 am to 5 pm as Fairfield University’s MFA in Creative Writing Program hosts its Spring 2026 Writers Colloquium. The event takes place at the Fairfield University Egan School of Nursing – Austin Campus, 7951 Shoal Creek Blvd., Third Floor, Austin, TX 78757.
Open to writers, readers, and literary enthusiasts, the colloquium is free and open to the public, with advance registration required. Centered on the theme “Writing Soul in a Broken World,” the program offers an immersive experience rooted in craft, discussion, and community. Participants will engage in readings and conversations, connect with MFA faculty, and take part in generative writing workshops designed to explore shared themes in an intimate and collaborative setting. Coffee, lunch, and a closing reception are included.
Featured faculty include Phil Klay and Matt Gallagher. Klay, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, is the National Book Award–winning author of Redeployment. His novel Missionaries was named a top book of 2020 by The Wall Street Journal and former President Barack Obama, and his essays have appeared in publications such as The New York Times, The Atlantic, and The New Yorker. His essay collection Uncertain Ground was published in 2022. Gallagher, a U.S. Army veteran, is the author of four books, including the novels Daybreak and Youngblood, a finalist for the Dayton Literary Peace Prize. He has also reported on the conflict in Ukraine as a correspondent for Esquire and Arrowsmith Journal.
